Put Your Hands Up For Neo-Tokyo - The Ghost

Put Your Hands Up For Neo-Tokyo

(NO / Nabovarsel)

When a track called “The Blood of Brethren” appeared on the internet in 2009, it was almost an overnight sensation with NRK P3 (the Norwegian equivalent of BBC Radio 1) picking it up and nominating the band as “Newcomer of the Year 2010″ soon afterwards. Instead of capitalizing on the hype, the five guys in Put Your Hands Up For Neo-Tokyo have quietly been working on their debut album “Mausoleum”. This album will be the centrepiece of their concert at Ekko. If they had rushed a release two years ago, perhaps they would have found fame as an important new act in the chillwave-scene; it certainly sounds one year ahead of its time now. Instead we see musicians who have evolved their aesthetics and found new avenues of expression.

Trying to describe PYHUFNT is a difficult task, as the kids (all from Bergen) are trying to find out how deeply an idea of modern pop music could become distorted and still retain its content. They list a wide range of influences, perhaps to confuse instead of explaining their sound: This Heat, Patrick Cowley, The Diplomats, Aphex Twin and Gui Boratto.

Put Your Hands Up For Neo-Tokyo released their debut single “The Ghost” in June, and two more singles will follow this autumn. The future looks bright for the exciting new act from Bergen.
