TIM EXILE
The Ekkofestival has throughout the years grown a reputation for presenting eccentric, nerdy boys with toys from all over Europe. Many of them are regarded as highlights. For instance: Weavie Stonder, with a giant homemade penis on the singers head. Or perhaps Legowelt, looking like a lost engineering student. Clark from Warp Records. And now Tim Exile. Also from Warp Records.
What separates him from his peers at the Sheffield-based label is his background from drum & bass on labels like Frequency, Beta and Moving Shadow. There are many things to say about the popular genre, emerged in a post-hardcore and jungle-UK, but much of that is best left unsaid. However he has taken with him, on the journey he has made since then, some of the best elements drum & bass could offer: The monstrous basslines and the Asperger-level of detail that goes into the incredible production. Combine this with catchy tunes like”Family Galaxy” and there can be no other result but the mainstream breakthrough he experienced with the album “Listening Tree”.
But make no mistake; Tim Exile will never be a popstar; he is too nerdy for that. Good for us! With his gadgets, joysticks and software he’ll surely make an already strong night even better; and play himself into the nerdy hearts of the Ekkofestivals audience.
